Found a Pet

Information and Advice

1. Get in touch with your local Animal Warden and/or Rescue Centre. Every local council has an Animal Welfare officer who is responsible for stray dogs roaming the local area. In most cases they are aware of any animal(s) that have been reported missing in their area and may be able to put you in contact with the owner.  Alternatively, they should be able to suggest where the animal could be housed until its owner is found.
2. Visit or contact your local Police Station to see if anybody has reported their pet as missing. Please use the link above to find the telephone number of your local station.
3. Contact the Vets in your area to see if the pet you have found has been registered as missing. Most vets have a lost and found book. They may take the pets details and your contact details in case somebody reports that they have lost their pet.
4. If you haven't already done so, advertise the found pet here on ThePetFile.com.
