Dessie dies at 27

Desert Orchid, who won the King George VI Chase a record four times, has died peacefully in his stable at the age of 27. Although retired since 1991, he remains one of the most loved race horses in history, having won 34 of his 70 starts. Since his retirement Dessie has raised thousands of pounds for charity, with his mere presence at charity events ensuring significant public support. Racegoers will be given a chance to pay their respects to the legendary grey jumper with plans to lay his ashes at Kempton racecourse next month, probably close to his statue at the course. From all at ThePetfile, thank you Dessie for some wonderful memories! 1
